Feeling the Spirit of Christmas....kind of

Bliss From Blessings #27, 26, and 25

25.
  • My first full day of my Christmas vacation. Holla-back youngins....two weeks off...woot woot!
  • Going walking with my friend Nicole. We don't get to talk often because all we do around my house is work, but she is so amazing. If anyone is an example of how to live your life happily, humble, and with courage....it's Nicole. I'm glad we get to have our morning walks this week.
  • Making a real dinner for the first time in 2 or 3 weeks. My poor husband has been surviving on scrounged up garbage from the kitchen. Seriously, it has not been pretty around here.
  • Dental insurance! It is so wonderful to go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned and walk out without one penny missing from my wallet. (besides my obvious monthly payment...but roll with me here...it saves me money)
  • Taking some time for myself at breakfast so I could read the Ensign and listen to the words of our living Prophet and Apostles.

26.

  • Tyler surviving a fever and a small bout of flu. He's not 100%, but oh what a difference a Sunday full of sleeping will make
  • Being able to sing in our wonderful church choir and totally feeling the spirit of Christmas and the truth of the gospel while we sang for our ward.
  • I love leading the music in Relief Society. I pick songs that go with our lessons, but most importantly I can take some time to teach all of those wonderful ladies a little bit about music. I think it is so much fun; one of my favorite callings ever.
  • Getting all of the presents in the house wrapped. There is still a few more to pick up, but everything is up to speed and under the tree!
  • Laying down and not worrying about what tomorrow may bring because Monday was all to myself.

27.

  • A visit from my friend Sush, from the office and his awesome wife Kristy. They came out to visit the Olive Mill near our house. They drove ALL the way across town so it was nice to visit.
  • I forgot to mention this like 8 million years ago, but my cousin Morgan had her little baby girl!!! Her name is Carsyn and she looks like a beautiful little doll. If she is only half as cute as her older brother, she will be a man eater.
  • A real date night with Tyler. We went shopping and he bought us two pretzels so we could sit on the bench and visit and people watch. It was so nice.
  • Visiting with some awesome ladies I go to church with. Once again, amazing people. I am so blessed to see their example and have their friendship.
  • An uplifting way to start my day with the final choir practice before our meeting on Sunday.

  • My family is coming up tonight to see the Christmas lights at the Mesa temple! Yay!

  • Having clean water to drink everyday. I know this is random, but I looked over at my water bottle, and I am so grateful! I take that blessing for granted far too often.

30.

  • Great planning sessions at work. I am starting to formulate a good picture of the type of person I would like to be moving forward in my career. There is a lot of work to do, but it's nice to have a goal.
  • A sweet secret santa at the office who brought me a yummy pastry and a gift card to get some new things for our puppies. Dishes and collars here we come!
  • A capital "A" amazing team dinner at this restaurant called Wildfish. Seriously, the best fish ever - Parmesan crusted Sole with this amazing butter sauce. YUM!
  • Fun while gift exchanging with the team. I picked my boss's 'bring' and got 2 portable speakers for my ipod. One is super cute and looks like a mini amplifier.
  • My friend Pamela's GPS.

31.

  • Visiting teachers! I love when they come over! I know and love Nicole and I got to visit with Paige. They are both awesome and we are all in very different parts of our lives so it makes for good conversation
  • Hanging up my Christmas garland on my stair banisters. It makes me feel like Martha Stewart
  • Having some good discussions at work and learning a lot, learning is always a blessing
  • Tyler bought me some Christmas presents!!! I am such a brat...I LOVE presents, the more the better. It's terrible, I know.
  • Mini pigs in a blanket for dinner. So healthy.

32.

  • I'll be honest....this was a long time ago, I don't really remember the details of the day, but I can tell you that for a Monday....it wasn't bad at all

  • Getting a quiet piece of the country life with Megan and Tommy and their horses
  • Finding faith in our public officers....it's nice to have a good encounter with the police every now and then, not that I have had any bad experiences, but when you are lost, they are super helpful.
  • A nice husband that will just let me be a poop every now and then.
35.

  • Half day Friday!
  • A company Christmas party where we just got to relax and visit and load up with sweet potato fries.

Bliss from Blessings #37

37.
  • Trying brussel sprouts for the first time and actually enjoying them. I think I like the texture of these little power house veggies.
  • Getting a little mid-day converstion with a friend. Just a nice way to break up my day.
  • Talking with my roomate from my freshman year of college. Super random, but nostalgic. Freshman year was crazy and especially rough for her, so it makes me happy that she's doing well.
  • Crossed some major things of the work 'to-do' list today. Now I can get some little things done and enjoy our Christmas party!
  • First night of weekday freedom. Mondays were crazy with school, Tuesdays are crazy with mutual, and Wednesday we can take a breath.

  • Channel surfing during lunch in the kitchen with some awesome people. It felt like we were just hanging out for an hour in someone's living room. A nice break for sure.

Leave of Absence

Check me out....I have been such a slacker with my posts. Life got really fast there for a few weeks and I figured it was more important to live it, than blog about it.

I have a few pictures I'll post later and a few key highlights below. I'll get back to my blessings tomorrow :)

  • This was our first traditional Thanksgiving since we've been married and it was kind of nice. Thanks (or not) to a little family injury, we stayed home from the sand dunes. We are grateful that everyone is healthy and on the mend.
  • We (and by we, I mean my husband) are all signed up for next semester at ASU. The end is so close, we can taste it. Just a few more to go.
  • We are both really excited for Christmas. We love (and probably spend too much money) shopping for other people. I'm determined to find some unique and wonderful things.
  • Finally sold one of our cars....such a relief. Not having to think about that opens up a whole world of goals and opportunities.
  • I am loving the people we go to church with. It is such a change and such a wonderful group of people. It has enlightened our minds, lives, and spirits and I think we can both honestly say we look forward to every church meeting we have. Tyler is such a great example for the youth and I love having a few minutes to teach some music skills to the ladies. Church is our labor of love and our break from the world.

Living day by day. That's our stride lately. We are happy, healthy, grateful, and as always....

Blessed.

  • This is gross....BUT....I finally decided to pop a zit the 'right' way. It totally worked! Not as quickly as I wanted it to, but still got the same fulfillment when I popped it. (Don't laugh at me like I'm a weirdo! You know you love it when you vaccum and you hear it sucking up all the dirt! Same thing!) Worth it...thanks Beth

  • Finally eating a real home-made meal. I ate out all last week in Minnesota, so Tyler ate out all last week in Phoenix. Yummy tacos made my Tyler and I dug into my homemaking roots and made some homemade bread. Felt good.

Bliss from Blessings #74,75,76,77

Whoops! Sorry I'm behind! Here's a long one:

74.
  • Totally productive day at the office. I worked my tail off and it felt good.
  • Tyler getting done with class early and feeling good about his exam.
  • Tyler scrubbing my toilets so clean he pulled out the sand paper....that was/is a huge blessing! (this sounds weird, my toilets weren't filthy nasty, but now they are extra sparkly)
  • Chips and Guacamole while I ate lunch with the ladies in the kitchen. One of my favorite parts of the day.
  • Doing a favor for the Hill's. I know it sounds selfish, but I love helping people. It makes me feel better than it probably makes them feel. We are always blessed when we help.

75.

  • Another refreshing day at church!
  • Sleeping so good I thought I was in a totally different place. It rocked.
  • Having an old friend over for dinner with her husband and adorable little girl. It was so good to hang out with them.
  • Getting REALLY mad and being REALLY humbled. I haven't seen my own temper in a long time and I realized how stupid getting angry is. What's even stupider....is was about Tyler's homework....I was the maddest I have been in a long time over a stupid website and teacher. Humbled.
  • Having a clean house!

76.

  • A great time with my cousins and grandma up in Buckeye for my cousin's baby shower. I love those ladies.
  • Going to a super fun wedding with Tyler and a bunch of people from his work. It was seriously the most fun wedding I have been to. Check out the place: Regency Garden
  • Dragging Tyler to Home Depot at 9pm to get me some wooden blinds. Yes...I'll admit it's a little high maintenance....I don't care. I love them.
  • Dancing the Conga and really lettin' loose with some total trangers. Tyler even jumped in!
  • Snugglin up with my sweetie after a long night

77.

  • Taking the boy out on a surprise date...it was all my idea.
  • Eating at Joe's Real BBQ. AMAZING! Totally casual and hole in the wall, but good home cookin'. Yummy. Joe's Real BBQ
  • Talking to my grandma on the phone again. If you can't tell from all of my posts about her...she is an amazing lady. Totally on her game still.
  • Wrestling with the puppies. My little 'girls' make me so happy.
  • The puppy asked to go outside! She scratched the back door! Lesson #2....halfway accomplished.

  • Getting some little nitty gritty things cleaned up at the house...bills...dust...sweeping...Ty's homework...whatev
  • Catching up with an old friend from high school that I literally have not spoken to in over 4 years. It was great....she is such an awesome person
  • Pulling in my driveway and being able to belt a song as loud as I could while jamming out in my car. There was a time when I would never do this for fear someone would see me.....I don't care anymore
  • Finishing a book I have worked on reading for about 1 year :)

Bliss from Blessings

Today marks the beginning of an era in my blogging life. Inspired by my amazing friend Katelin (The Five to Nine), I am starting a daily posting entitled:

"Bliss from Blessings"

I feel like it is time to focus on the wonderful small miracles in life that make the world a beautiful place to be. The people, scenes, things, words, and nonsense that are tiny in nature but significant in impact.

My purpose is to recognize the things in my life that bring bliss......and in turn.....create a pattern of worthiness in my life and pass on the blessings.

A Few Key Points About My Life

1) I love working for a food company.....instant dinner without grocery shopping!

2) I have not spent one red cent on something frivilous for myself in quite a while (except for that $2.10 at Jack in the Crack, but after a puppy poops in your car....it is NOT a frivilous expense). Let me just say I am incredibly dissapointed in myself for acting like this is such a big deal! Heaven forbid I might actually save a few bucks BUT I just want to buy something. This is my new resolution, to not 'want'. Go ahead, wish me luck with that, haha

3) I have not found a good time to exercise and so I don't. I have decided I will never find a good time to exercise so I'll just have to suck it up and use the bad times (like 4:45 in the am...AHHH)

4) I love drawing floor plans. Love Love Love Love it. I will build a house one day and it will be everything I could have ever wanted. I love putting all my big fancy dreams down on paper. (Note...this doesn't go very well with #2)

5) No matter how grouchy, rude, ungrateful, snotty, and unkind I am (and trust me, sometimes I am) I am continually blessed by my Heavenly Father. His hand is unwavering in my life and is the only constant in which I have come to place my reliance. Even though I may feel like being the opposite I cannot deny that I am continually thankful and amazed at the blessings Tyler and I are given.

Techno-Mania

I just wanted to write a quick post about how grateful I am for medical technology. My mom just had quite an invasive surgery and it is amazing how easily and effortlessly doctors seem to accomplish such daunting tasks. A surgery that would not even have been possible a few decades ago, is now complete in less than 2 hours.
We are so blessed. Mom is good.

Listen here: Party in the USA

2) I am so glad I went out with the ladies dancing on Friday night. I forgot so much, including how much I love dancing. It is tough to convince boys to dance with you when you have a wedding ring on, but it was worth the good time. I'm so thankful for a confident husband.

Come with us: Paragon Dancing for only $5 on Fridays

3) I'm starting a tri-healthalon at work and the winning team gets a pair of customized running shoes....Yoga-Booty-Ballet....here I come!!

A Little Taste of Paradise

Guess where we just spent a week!?

HAWAII

This was the first vacation Tyler and I have taken alone since our honeymoon! It was so nice to soak up the sun (like Sheryl Crow...haha) and not have to entertain any family or friends. Love ya'll, but it was sure nice to have some boy time all to myself :) We went to some great places, got a little burnt, and really just relaxed. We had no agenda and for those of you who know me well, know that it is a major step towards my over-planning recovery...haha

Me enjoying some "Shave Ice"
We walked through downtown Lahaina almost every night. The road is lined with restaurants, art galleries, shopping, and sights. This is also a really historical area since it used to be the home to royalty, Maui's first jail, and the largest Banyon tree in the world (almost an entire acre!) Most importantly, the street itself halfway hangs over the ocean, so the waves were always near by.

One afternoon we stopped by a "Shave Ice" place and the guy that owned the shop was so amazing. You could tell that he really cared about his little icey treats and wanted to make sure every customer was just as happy as he was about their cup of goodness. Unlike our continental favorite "Bahama Bucks", this man made each syrup from scratch. He told us he buys pure can sugar from the nearby plantation and mixes it with all the fresh fruit on the island. I got Mango, Guava, Passionfruit, and it was like eating the iced version of the fruit itself. The syrups even had the fruit pulp in them!!!

On the Road to Hana
There is a beautiful road on the East side of the island called the road to Hana. This 2 hour drive has over 600 switchback turns and 54 one way bridges. It winds all along the side of the mountainous cliffs of the Hawaiian rainforest. This was definitely the most beautiful part of the island. There were beautiful views of course, but also great little farmer's markets, hikes, and creatures.

Hiking the Pipiwai Trail

We stopped to take a 2 mile hike into the rainforest on the Pipiwai trail past the "7 Sacred Pools" and through an amazing bamboo forest. The bamboo forest was crazy because there aren't any branches for birds to land on so it is dark and silent. A little creepy :) At the end of the hike there was a huge 700 ft. waterfall! You could stand a good 20 feet from the base pool and still feel the mist of the water from crashing against the rocks.

We also went on a great snorkel trip and swam with schools of fish and sea turtles. I would post pictures but we were a little goofy looking with our snorkel masks and sun burnt faces...haha!

It was a great time and as mushy as it sounds the best part was just relaxing and spending time with Tyler. I love him too much for my own health.

Thanks Maui....it's been grand!

You're Gonna Be Popular....

Guess what I am dragging my sweet husband to see tonight!!!???

!!!!!!!Wicked the Musical!!!!!!!

I seriously cannot wait. I read the book, I have the soundtrack, I've held the music in my own hands and it is fabulous!

Go here to enjoy some of the tunes for yourself:

Music from Wicked

I met one of my very good friends from high school for lunch the other day and we both reminisced about our theatre days and how we miss it. I can't describe how badly I would love to do something creative again, and by creative, I mean musicals :) They are really a piece of my soul and I know that sounds cheesy but it is a feeling from my gut that I can't shake and I haven't stepped on a stage for 5 years. One day...that is what I keep telling myself.

But...for now, I feed my hunger by dragging my poor husband to whatever I can put my hands on. Seriously...you should hear this soundtrack....capital 'A' Amazing.

Saturday, July 11, 2009

Since I have been galavanting around the globe I haven't had time to really plan out our food like I usually do and boy is there a difference! The past couple months we have spent at least $300 on groceries each month, not including eating out....crazy!!!!

Behold....the budget and belly saver:

July's Meal Plan

I know I am missing a few days at the beginning of this month but they are already gone and this took me long enough. I went shopping today and bought food for all of the items on this menu, PLUS some stock up items and only spent $100!!! Bargain city right!?

ps. If you are planning on shopping before Wednesday, Albertsons has the most amazing peaches on sale right now for $0.99 (capital A amazing)....plus pork loin for only $1.69/lb (usually like $6....fantastic!)......and BOGO on their small cheeses. Fry's is doing thier case sale so I stocked up on Powerade for Tyler and saved like $5 and a ton of other stuff too!

Whew....my life feels organized and so does my bank account.

Rollin' with the Homies

So...post number one in a series of quick catch up posts so prepare yourself!!!

Colorado Springs

I had never been to Colorado before and I had heard so many great things so I was really excited when I found out we would be having some work meetings up at the beautiful Broadmoor Resort.

Me and the Homies
(on what I'm sure was a pure silk couch)

Not only did I get to stay at this mansion estate of a resort but I really got a good taste for Colorado as well. We each got to pick a 'recreation' for our second day at the resort...now understand this is a 5 star Luxury place and the spa is ranked in the top 5 in the nation or something ridiculous. What did your girl do????!

JEEP TOUR!!! Why wouldn't you want to drive around in the beautiful weather soak up the sights, go for a hike and cross over 7 waterfalls, see the Garden of the Gods, and drive through an old gold mine railway?

That is way better than getting a little foot rub if you ask me :)
Near the Top of Pikes Peak
(standing over a waterfall)

Garden of the Gods

This picture does not do the Garden of Gods justice. The landscape was so green and lush and then there would be huge red sandstone formations just jumping out of the ground. This view is actually from a higher view and then we drove down through the canyon. There were little spots like this for at least 10 square miles. It was awesome! I also got to see these guys:

Our jeep driver said he had been driving this path for about 10 years now and this was only the second time he had ever seen these rams come over the side of those cliffs. The man who actually built the Broadmoor in 1910, also built his estate in the Garden of the Gods and the Rams live on his property. It was really awesome!

To top it off we all got some really nice gifts from our company for the close of the fiscal year. It was a nice little reprieve from the daily grind at the office. I can't wait for next year...where could we go next!?
